The credit pipeline is still largely frozen and deal-makers remain skittish about the prospects for the economy, making it incumbent upon buyers and sellers to get creative when trying to close their transactions.
Although it's true that funding for buyouts large and small remains elusive, banks have not stopped lending entirely. Non-traditional sources of debt capital, such as specialty finance companies, also offer an alternative source of credit for investors seeking to finance leveraged buyouts. However, most sellers will still need to be convinced that their businesses aren’t worth the lofty prices that many are seeking, and buyers will have to be willing to accept less equity.
